Opportunity Project, Inc. was founded in 1993 by families whose sons had sustained serious brain injuries. Their goal was to fill a very significant gap in community services for individuals with brain injury. These families discovered that while excellent acute medical care and rehabilitation services were available, there was an absence of effective transitional and reintegration services within the community. Their extensive research resulted in the identification of a nationally recognized program – the Clubhouse model of community support. In 1994 Opportunity Project served 5 members. The Clubhouse
Since 1993, OP’s primary focus has been the continued development of a creative and supportive environment that would meet the unique and varied needs of adults with brain injuries. The program founders identified the National Clubhouse Program Model of community reintegration. OP was the first and is still the only service delivery system of its kind in New Jersey. Each year the Clubhouse has been expanded and modified to meet the abilities and needs of our members, Empowering people with brain injury on a daily basis, our programs continue to enrich the lives of the thousands of supporters, families, friends, and members. ...

According to the CDC over 2.5 million people in the United States sustain a traumatic brain injury every year. There are an estimated 5.3 million Americans that live with long-term disabilities as a result of brain injury and millions more that suffer from the residual effects of less severe TBIs.
