kidsforkidsWe are proud to be partnering with the Junior League of the Oranges and Short Hills, Inc. (JLOSH) on their second annual Kids For Kids’ Children’s Volunteer Event.

‘Kids For Kids’, organized by JLOSH, and supported in part by the Investors Foundation, brings together local groups, including Opportunity Project, for a morning of hands-on volunteering and fun at the George Bauer Community Center in Taylor Park, Millburn, on Saturday, November 16. This is the second year that this children’s volunteering event to help youngsters in need is being held.

Contributing community groups include Christ Church Cub Scout Pack #1, Community FoodBank of New Jersey, Deerfield Elementary School in Short Hills, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Family Intervention Services, Inc., Girl Scout Troops #315, #20124, and #20898, Interfaith Hospitality Network of Essex County, Inc., Millburn High School Key Club, Mothers and More Maplewood-South Orange Chapter, Opportunity Project, AAA New Jersey Automobile Club and The Salvation Army Orange Corps.

JLOSH President Sara D’Andrea explained: “This wonderful event is possible because of the collective efforts and support of our community partners. It is a great example of how we can do so much more together. By planning this event and including the younger generation, we hope to further spread the good work of volunteerism.”

The activities, suitable for children aged six to eleven years, will include:

  • Sorting & organizing donated books for re-distribution to local kids in need.
  • Assembling hundreds of cold winter essential and dental health kits to be distributed, via Community FoodBank of New Jersey, to children receiving weekend meal backpacks.
  • Filling bags with healthy afterschool snacks for programs servicing homeless and at-risk youth.
  • Creating handmade holiday greetings to be delivered to a local senior center and included in hundreds of Thanksgiving Food Baskets.
  • Being educated on bike safety including the importance of wearing helmets and helping spread the word to children in nearby communities.
  • Meeting and supporting the 2012-13 winners of JLOSH’s ‘The Littlest Volunteer Contest’, a contest for children grades 1st-5th that asks the question “what would you do to better your community”. ‘Kids For Kids’ day will mark the kick-off of the 2013-14 contest that awards $100 for the most creative idea.

‘Kids For Kids’ takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, at the George Bauer Community Center in Taylor Park, 100 Main Street, Millburn, NJ.
