BAM Web Article 1The Members, staff and Board of Trustees of Opportunity Project are proud to announce that this year Brain Injury Awareness Month campaign raised over $37,000 – our highest amount ever!

We launched brain injury awareness month on March 2 with Mayor Robert J. Tillotson of Millburn who issued a proclamation declaring March 2015 as Brain Injury Awareness Month at the Clubhouse. We were thrilled to have our Members, their families, Opportunity Project Board Members and our community partners join us for the kick-off.

In recognition of Brain Injury Awareness week, we held two events, our Healthy Brain Healthy Me Open House on March 18, 2015 and our Gumbo Cook-Off on March 21,2015.

Healthy Brain Healthy Me, sponsored by Barnabas Health and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, was a health and wellness program focusing on how exercise, stress management and nutrition affects brain health, promotes prevention and helps with recovery. The day featured food tastings, chair massages from Massage Envy Short Hills and health and wellness discussions by local professionals. Speakers included Barbara Mintz MS, RD of Barnabas Health, Debby Kaminsky of the Newark Yoga Movement, Rosann Bostonian Ph.D. and Miriam Belov MAT, RAT of the Health and Wellness Co Op – Millburn/Short Hills.

Our Gumbo Cook-Off sponsored by Investors Bank, brought our members and the local community together for a fun-filled New Orleans themed evening at the Millburn Firehouse – This event alone raised $9,000! Read more about in on NJ Online.

We are pleased to also announce that this year’s lucky raffle winners were:

• The Rocker Family: NY Jets Luxury Box Tickets
• Floyd Shapiro: PaperMill Playhouse Tickets and Martini Bistro Gift Certificate
• Christine Citron: Huntley Tavern Gift Certificate
• The Pagnillo Family: Massage Envy Gift Certificate

We were excited to have many longstanding companies and several new companies partner with us in this year’s event. We could not have done all of this without the generous support of all of our sponsors and donors. Thank you to everyone for helping to ensure that BAM 2015 was a tremendous success.
