Police Officers win Battle of the Badges Cook-off

Congratulations to the Millburn Police for winning the Cook-off trophy!

Officer Lester Manuyag from the Millburn Police Department was declared the Best Chef at the Battle of the Badges Cook-off challenge to raise funds for Opportunity Project, a non-profit that assists individuals recovering from brain injury. It was a fun-filled and successful event with proceeds going directly towards Opportunity Project’s brain injury programs and awareness activities!

Fire Chief Robert Echavarria welcomed a full house of guests to the event on Friday, April 27 at the Millburn Township fire headquarters. “I’m proud to be the host of this Cook-off between the Millburn Police and Fire Departments. This event allows us to further our relationships with members of our community that we serve. Congratulations to the Police Department on a great win!”

Officer Manuyag and his team of sous chefs celebrated a 3-2 victory, delighting the judge’s palates and taking home the prize for cooking the ultimate slider.  “We were so happy to take part in such a great event for an amazing cause! It was a close one but we are happy to take the win. We would like to thank Opportunity Project and the Millburn Fire Department for including us in this event.”

Although, Firefighter Chef Dave Hammond lost by a slim margin, his delicious slider won the “public choice” vote. Dave was a great sport and says he was happy to participate in this event that benefited individuals recovering from brain injury.

Opportunity Project Executive Director Carol Albanese was thrilled with the support from the Millburn/Short Hills and surrounding communities. “Thank you for your support throughout our 24 years of being part of the Millburn community and for joining us to celebrate this much anticipated final event for Brain Injury Awareness Month 2018!”

Opportunity Project thanks their supporters for donating over $44,000, making Brain Injury Awareness Month 2018 the most successful ever! Opportunity Project extends a special thank you to Cook-off event sponsors U.S. Trust Bank of America Private Wealth Management and Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Thank you to So I Heard Music, Gian Marco Trattoria, Oscar’s Deli & Restaurant, La Strada Nuova, Casita Mexican, Chocolate Works, The Millburn Police and Fire Departments, and President’s Club Barber Shop for their donations.
